Cuttack: An ailing female elephant from Damapada-Chandaka Forest Reserve was found near Banara village of Banki block here on Thursday morning. The looming Herpes virus scare has presumably found it's latest victim which had taken life of four sub-adult tuskers in past one month.

As per reports, locals spotted the sick elephant today and informed the Damapada forest officials. Bhubaneswar Forest officials along with Divisional Forest Officer and Assam Veterinary team too arrived at the spot and the pachyderm is being provided with necessary medical attention.

However, even all the teams together have not been able to ascertain the cause of sickness. The teams refused to comment on the situation.

Tusker Gauri of Nandankan Zoological Park had become the fourth victim to succumb to Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpes Virus (EEHV). It was also reported that the fatal Herpes virus had spread to juvenile elephants of the Chandaka-Damapada forest reserve.
