Agri Minister Credits Naveen's Pro-Farmer Policies For Winning Commendation Award

Bhubaneswar: Agriculture and Farmers' Empowerment Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo today credited Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's pro-farmer policies and support to farmers for the State winning "Commendation Award 2016-17" from the Government of India for total foodgrains production.

"As a result of various support and help to the Agriculture Department and farmers under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Odisha has attained several advancements in the farming sector," said Sahoo speaking to newsmen here today.

Sahoo said because of a separate agriculture budget, Agriculture Policy-2008, Revised Agriculture Policy-2013 and the new Agriculture Policy of 2020-SAMRIDHI and the priority given to agriculture sector Odisha has made great strides in foodgrains production, the Government of India has awarded "Commendation Award" for “Total Foodgrains Production” for the year 2016-17 to Odisha under the "Krishi Karman Awards".

The Centre has also given a cash prize of Rs 1 crore, he added.

The Agriculture Minister pointed out that the State has recorded a bumper production in paddy last year and this year as well.

"Moreover the State government has launched Millet Mission to promote cultivation of millet. The government has arranged for procurement of millet from farmers through mandis. This is a unique programme of the State government," stated Sahoo.
