Bhubaneswar: Puri district received National Award for Plastic Waste Management from the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under Ministry of Jal Shakti. The award ceremony was held at Delhi today.
Actor and founder of Paani Foundation, Aamir Khan presented the award to an official of Puri district during the award ceremony held during the ODF Sustainability Workshop under Swachhata Hi Seva 2019 campaign.
Swachhata Hi Seva 2019 focused on addressing single-use plastic management, which saw very encouraging response from all districts as well as citizens. To recognize these efforts by districts, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation gave away awards to top three districts whose contribution has shown innovation and effectiveness in managing the plastic waste end to end.
Four districts - Dibrugarh - Assam, Sirmur - Himachal Pradesh, Puri - Odisha and Indore - Madhya Pradesh, were nominated for the award. The event also included an interactive session with Khan.
