12 Dead, Several Injured After Mini-Truck Plunges Into Gorge In Kandhamal

Kandhamal: As many as twelve people died and over 25 others sustained critical injuries after the mini truck they were traveling in overturned and plunged into a gorge here today morning.

The identities of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. Death toll is likely to climb up as many other have been critically injured.

Reportedly, the incident occurred when the mini truck was traveling from Gadapur to Brahmani village and the driver lost control over the wheels. The vehicle fell off Poiguda ghat road and took a deep plunge into the gorge killing eight people on the spot.

On intimation, cops along with a rescue team reached the spot and recovered the bodies. Over 25 people were rushed to Brahmanigaon hospital and MKCG hospital in Berhampur, and are currently undergoing treatment.

Odisha Transport Minister Nrusingha Sahu said that people need to be more cautious and should not travel in overcrowded vehicles. He also said that a detailed probe will be made and action will be taken into the matter.
