Bhubaneswar: As Odisha went to the Phase-IV and final polling today for the rest of its seven Lok Sabha seats and the concerned Assembly seats under them out of the total 21 Lok Sabha and 146 Assembly seats (adjourned Patkura Assembly seat polling on May 19), 66% of tentative polling by 5 pm today was reported from the seven parliamentary constituencies (PCs) that had the simultaneous votings.

While Mayurbhanj PC polled 66%, Baleswar 64%, Bhadrak 68%, Jajpur 65%, Kendrapada 65%, Jagatsinghpur 64%.

Briefing media, Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar informed, “At so many booths, polling is still going on. Voters are in the queue as the process will continue till 6 pm. As per the data available with us by 5 pm, till now approximately 66% polling has been reported.”

“The figure now I’m giving is tentative and upto 5 o’ clock as polling is till 6 pm. In Mayurbhanj parliamentary constituency it is 66 percent, Baleswar parliamentary constituency 64 percent, Bhadrak 68 percent, Jajpur 65 percent, Kendrapada 65 percent and Jagatsinghpur 64 percent. Hence, total 66 percent of overall polling report is available with us by 5 pm,” he stated.

He added, “This figure will definitely go up as polling is still on and the voters are in the queue. As it was sizzling heat in the day time, there is possibility of the queue going long in the evening hours.”

“Polling has been peaceful in most of the places. The initial hiccups were also there in today’s fourth phase as had been in the earlier three phases. But the Sector Officers handled it by their aggressive movements. That is a standard pattern across the country. In most of the places, it is only human error like mishandling of the switch or improper linkage of the machine,” stated the Odisha CEO.
