Bhubaneswar: 'One Vehicle, One Plant' initiative that had been launched by Bhubaneswar Regional Transport Office-II (RTO) has successfully completed one year with over 60,000 saplings distributed to new vehicle owners.
R.T.O-II had started the drive in association with Automobile Dealers and Manufaturers, Odisha Forest Department, and Odisha Calling Foundation to address global warming and air pollution.
In the course of 365 days, over 60,000 saplings of ‘limba’ (neem), ‘boula’, ‘champa’, ‘aswastha’ (peepal) and ‘arjuna’ have been gifted to owners at the time of delivery of the new vehicle.
At the car showrooms, new owners are given sweets, chocolates and balloons, however this free sapling will be more beneficial to the society and will also make the customers realize their duty towards the environment, said officials.
