Berhampur: In a tragic incident, three minor girls drowned in the Rushikulya River near Kanjiyama village under Hinjili police limits in Ganjam district. While two of them have been rescued, one is still missing.

Police and Fire Services personnel with help of local villagers have launched a search operation to rescue the missing minor girl identified as Sili Behera (17) of Kanjiyama village.

“We are trying our best to rescue the missing girl,” said Laba Nayak, a Fire Officer who is part of the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, the other two girls who were rescued have been admitted to nearest hospital for treatment.

The trio had been to the river to collect water for conducting the daily rituals with respect to the Khudurkini Puja. Current of the river was strong owing to regular rainfall and the girls were pulled into the water. Hearing their cries for help locals rushed to rescue them. The police and fire services were duly informed who later joined the rescue operation.
