5,920 Bottles Of Banned Cough Syrup Seized In Bolangir, 5 Held

Bolangir: As many as 5,920 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup were seized by police under the operation "Mission Clean" against peddling of narcotics substances like Ganja and codeine contained cough syrup in Bolangir on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off about transportation of huge quantity of cough syrup from Cuttack, a special team under the leadership of Sadar SDPO S Barik comprising Sadar PS IIC Tophan Bag, SI J Bhoi, SI G Xaxa and ASI R Kumbhar blocked the Balangir-Patnagarh near Patharchepa and intercepted two vehicles an Ashok Leyland pick-up and a Mahindra TUV 300 Plus.

The Ashok Leyland driver Kirtichandra Sandh and is associate Makund Charan Nag were apprehended with 30 cartoons of Eskuf cough syrup. Similarly, Golu alias Laxminarayan Agrawal along with Lalit Ku Bajpei and Bikash Duria were apprehended from the Mahindra TUV with seven cartoons of the said cough syrup. Each of the cartoons contained 160 bottles of cough syrup of 100 ML capacity each, totalling to 5,920 bottles.

During interrogation it was found that they were operating as an organised criminal syndicate. They were transporting the cough syrup from Cuttack under the leadership of Golu who controls Balangir district and Lalit Ku Bajpei who controls Bargarh district and Bikash Duria along with Makunda Charan Nag are operating in Nuapada district.

With the arrest of the five, Balangir police has also declared that the ongoing drive against illegal cough syrup would continue in future and all necessary steps would be taken to eliminate the illegal trade from the district.
