Bhubaneswar: A total of 41 middle men and agents indulging in human trafficking have been arrested from different areas of Bolangir and Nuapada district, informed Police on Saturday.
Reportedly, as per direction of the DGP, a special simultaneous drive had been launched in the above mentioned districts on October 11 to detect trafficking of labourers to inside and outside the State by middle men and agents.
Special squads were formed by SPs of Bolangir and Nuapada to identify such agents and middle men on the basis of prime-facie evidence. Subsequently, 41 accused, 25 in Bolangir and 16 in Nuapada, were arrested on the basis of 15 FIRs, 9 in Bolangir and 6 in Nuapada.
The accused will be produced before a court and the police will seek their remand for interrogation to establish their links with other middle men and agents in and outside the State.
This unique and maiden drive of Odisha Police against human trafficking is part of 5T initiative, which aims to transform the lives of common people by preventing their exploitation through trafficking by agents and middle men.
