Bhubaneswar: As Odisha is reeling under acute heat wave condition despite the onset of inactive south-west monsoon, sunstroke has claimed 36 lives in the State since April till date. In the last 8 days, 6 deaths have been officially registered from across the State.
This was revealed by Odisha Deputy Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) P.R. Mohapatra at the State Secretariat here on Wednesday.
The Deputy SRC informed media that the 36 deaths have been registered since April this year while Bargarh and Khurda districts have recorded the highest death toll due to the fatal sunstroke.
He also informed that the 6 sunstroke deaths have been registered since June 13 till June 20 this year.
Notably, the much-awaited south-west monsoon has already kissed Odisha recently but has unfortunately vanished following which there is no respite from the sizzling summer and soaring heatwave condition every passing day.
