Sundergarh: Young hockey aspirants of Sports Hostel in Sundargarh are excited and have welcomed the announcement by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on holding some matches of 2023 Men's Hockey World Cup in Rourkela.
"It is a matter of pride that 2023 Men's Hockey World Cup will be held at Rourkela in our Sundargarh district. We will get a chance to watch the game of international players and learn from them," said Birsa Xalxo, a student of the sports hostel.
Another student Ritesh Minz hailed the decision of the Chief Minister to set up 17 astro-turf hockey stadiums (Training Centres) in the district. "We were playing in grass field but our brothers and sisters will be able to play on the turf. It will help them to learn high quality of game and excel their performance," he added.
"It is a great opportunity for hockey aspirants in the district as the World Cup has arrived at their doorstep. They will be able to learn best techniques and tactics. Earlier, the students were able to play on the turf only after arriving at the hostel but with establishment of astro-turfs in every block they will be able to excel their performance at the grassroots," said Hockey Coach of the sports hostel, Bijay Lakra.
