Bhubaneswar: As many as 20 gates of Hirakud Dam were opened on Thursday night to release flood water. Meanwhile, the water level remained below danger level in all rivers as of 6 am on Thursday.

Reservoir Level: 620.87ft Falling
Full Reservoir Level: 630ft
Avg Inflow: 1,51,550 Cusecs
Avg Outflow: 3,28,295 Cusecs
Discharge at Mundali: 4,74,624 cusecs
While people near Mundali were panic-stricken, dam authorities and district administration have taken all steps to ensure the safety of people in the low-lying areas.
Earlier, Water Resources Secretary PK Jena informed, “The flood in the downstream is moderate and we do not want to heighten it. Flood control is the main objective of Hirakud Dam. Meanwhile, more rain is expected in Mahanadi basin over the next 48 hours. More gates might be opened depending on the situation."
