2 Pilgrims From Odisha Dead In Nepal Bus Accident

Bhubaneswar: Two pilgrims from Odisha died in a road accident when the bus they were travelling in was hit by a truck in Rautahat district of Nepal on Monday night.

The deceased have been identified as Bijay Kumar Jena of Jatani and Charan Biswal of Malipada, Khurda. Two others from Odisha, Sheshadev Jena (53) and Sarbeshwar Jena (55) have sustained critical injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital in Birjung. They had gone to Nepal on a pilgrimage since June 6.

As per reports, the accident occurred when Kathmandu-bound bus carrying 60 passengers had stopped at Paurai forest area for passengers to freshen up. The vehicle was pushed some 20 metres into the forest after being rammed from behind by the truck.

While both the pilgrims from Odisha were killed on the spot, 21 others were wounded and rushed to Chandranigaharpur hospital. Search is on to nab the absconding truck driver and meanwhile the Indian Consulate is in touch with authorities over repatriation of mortal remains.
