Ganjam: Two dreaded criminals involved in murder of a poll candidate were nabbed and have sustained bullet injuries in an exchange of fire between Ganjam Police and antisocials near the ground opposite a hospital under Golantara police limits area late last night.

Reportedly, the two criminals Ganesh Nayak and Hrusi Patra of Aska were trying to flee along with their three associates towards Andhra Pradesh, when  a cat and mouse chase ensued between them and the police.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team headed by Inspector-in-charge of Gosani Nuagaon Police Station Sumit Soren and Senior Inspector Kaushik Majhi chased the antisocials and were successful in nabbing Nayak and Patra. Both of them have sustained bullet injuries and have been admitted to MKCG Hospital for treatment.

The duo was involved in the murder of one Manoj Jena, Aska assembly constituency's Congress candidate. Two country made pistols, three live catridge, empty caps and one bike was seized from the spot.

While three of their associates managed to flee, efforts are on to nab them.
