2 Cops Critical After Face-Off With Gamblers During Raid In Berhampur

Berhampur: Two Police officers were left with critical injuries after gamblers thrashed during a raid at a gambling den at Lochapada Khanja Padia Sahi under Sadar Police limits here on Saturday. 11 accused have been arrested in this matter.

Acting on a tip-off the Sadar Police conducted a raid on a gambling den at Lochapada Khanja. The gamblers attacked the raiding party with sticks. One of them even bit Sub-Inspector Bibhuti Sethi’s hand. While another group broke front lights of Police jeep’s front light.

On receiving information, another party of Police arrived and rescued the injured officials. Subsequently, 11 gamblers were arrested and cash worth Rs 8770, seven mobile phones and several sticks were seized.

The 11 accused have been charged with grievous crimes such as mob lynching, attempt to murder, assaulting a police officer. A case has been registered with the mentioned offences and the accused have been forwarded to court.
