Odisha: 2 Charred To Death In Truck-Tanker Head-On Collision, Gas Leak Scare Halts Traffic

SambalpurDrivers of a bauxite-laden truck and an LPG tanker were charred to death as the two vehicles caught fire after a head-on collision today early morning. The accident also led to leakage of LPG in the tanker for which the traffic was halted.

The accident occurred at about 4.30 am today on NH 55 near Jujumura police station of Sambalpur district.

As per reports, the two vehicles immediately caught fire after they collided into each other. Locals and Jujumura police rushed to help them but called Jujumura fire service when they failed. Later Sambalpur Fire Service was called upon who brought the fire under control.

The charred bodies of the two drivers were found from inside the truck. Meanwhile, the helpers of the two vehicles have not been located yet. The death toll might increase, said fire officials.

The accident caused leakage of the LPG from the tanker. The stretch of the road was blocked and nearby houses vacated. The Bharat Petroleum officials were called upon the site. After minor repairs, the leakage was stopped.

As per last reports, the traffic flow has begun. The vehicles, however, have not been removed yet.
