Bhubaneswar: As the first session of the newly-formed 16th Odisha Legislative Assembly (OLA) is all set to begin from June 25 onwards and presentation of Budget for the year 2019-2020 will be on June 25, ruling BJD, main opposition BJP and other opposition party Congress had their individual reactions today.

Former Leader of Opposition and Bolangir’s sitting MLA (Congress) Narasingha Mishra said, “As an interim budget till July 31 has been passed by the Assembly, if it is not passed within the time, the State Government can’t be allowed for any sort of expenditure. Hence, the full budget must be approved by the Assembly before July 31.”

“Keeping in view, decision has been taken to convene the Odisha Assembly on June 25. Today there will be the notification. Budget will be presented, general discussion will be held, there will be a break as the demands will be sent to the Standing Committee. Standing Committee on an average takes 15 days of time. After submission of report by the Standing Committee, discussions on 14 demands are mandatory. It will be taking 14-15 days of discussions due to holidays or Sunday. Then Appropriation bill will follow suit.”

“Going by it, there is least chance of our complete budget being passed after the Union Budget as was expected.”

Bolangir Lok Sabha Seat’s Loisinga MLA (BJP) Mukesh Mahaling said, “BJP has been selected as the Leader of Opposition. Apart from that, there are several problems. Specifically in Loisinga, there is drinking water problem, issues of Odisha farmers, distress sale of paddy, health, education, etc.”

“We will definitely play the apt role of Leader of Opposition and attack the Government,”

On the contrary, senior BJD MLA and Transport Minister Padmanava Behera reacted, “Let there be discussions by the opposition party or the ruling party, Assembly is not new to us. Whatever question will be raised, we’ll put forth the answer. We are ready to face the opposition. No problem.”
