Puri: With the Rath Yatra at Puri to be held on July 4 this year, 155 platoons of police force along with two companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF), three companies of Odisha Swift Action Force (OSAF) and three platoons of Special Tactical Unit (STU) will be deployed in the holy town for smooth conduct of the festival, informed DGP RP Sharma while reviewing the security arrangements in the second preparatory meeting held today.

Sharma also informed that, as cyclone FANI has done a lot of damage to many infrastructures in the district, police is facing various issues in providing logistics support and manpower needed during Rath Yatra. The challenges are accommodation of forces and therefore a survey is being done to find out suitable buildings for the purpose.

The CCTV cameras at Puri have also been damaged during FANI, efforts are underway to relink the functional CCTV cameras with the control room and install additional or temporary CCTV cameras in place of the damaged ones.

The State Police have made an elaborate plan by assigning duties to senior officers. While ADG (Law and Order) Sanjeeb Panda will remain in overall charge of police arrangements, IG (Special Armed Police) Amitabh Thakur will supervise traffic arrangements, IGP (Central Range) Soumendra Kumar Priyadarshi will supervise police arrangements inside the temple, IG (Headquarters) Asheet Panigrahi will supervise the arrangements of the crowd control management and IG (Crime Branch) Arun Bothra will supervise the arrangements and crowd control within and adjacent to the cordons around the three chariots.
