Bhubaneswar: As power restoration work is on a war-footing in the places adversely affected by Cyclone FANI that wreacked havoc on May 3, Odisha Government today informed that cent percent power restoration in the capital city here will be made by May 12.

Since Puri district has been massively damaged, it will take a longer time for power restoration there even though the State Administration has made a target to restore power by May 12 to the sacred Bada Danda stretch situated before the Shree Jagannath Temple of the world-renowned pilgrim city.

Briefing media at the State Secretariat today, Odisha Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Secretary Sanjay Singh said, “80% power supply will be restored in Bhubaneswar by May 10 while by May 12, 100% power supply will be restored.”

He informed, “Efforts are also on to restore power supply at Puri Bada Danda by May 12. Puri’s power restoration will begin from May 12, but it will take a longer time to restore it for all the places because damage has been there in a large scale.”

He further informed, “Around 500 gangs, 10 persons in each gang, are on the power restoration job. Every gang also consists of an officer. These gangs have been mobilized from various States. Some gangs have been outsourced from Andhra Pradesh, some from West Bengal and more are on their way to Odisha. They are coming from Telangana, some more from West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.”

“We are trying to dispatch teams of ITI and Polytechnic students to each house from tomorrow onwards so that they could sort out any problems there. These students are especially undergoing training in the trades of electrician and plumbing. They will be deployed in Bhubaneswar as well as Puri,” stated the I&PR Secretary.

On water supply, he said, “State Government’s first focus area was how to restore water supply and remove road blockages.”

He informed, “80% water supply has been restored in Cuttack city. Our target is to restore 100% water supply there by today evening.”

He further informed, “While 70% water supply has been restored in Khurda, rest 30% restoration is also on our target. In Jatni 50% and efforts are on to make it 80% by today evening.”

“In Puri city also water supply has been restored, also in Bhubaneswar. This has been done by using DG sets at various places,” claimed the I&PR Secretary.
