2 Dead, 4 Injured As Bus Overturns In Odisha's Choudwar

Bhubaneswar: Two person were killed while four others sustained injuries when a private bus overturned near Kajalakana square at Choudwar on Monday evening. The incident took place when the bus named 'Nilakantha' was on its way from Cuttack to Angul.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. The injured persons are, Sabana Dehury (18) and Kanchan Kumari (46) of Choudwar, Rajat Roul (20) of Dhenkanal and Kumar Jyoti Prakash (20) of Angul.

Several passengers were badly stuck in the vehicle which overturned after the driver lost control while steering through a curve on the busy National Highway. According to eye-witnesses, the loaded bus skidded off the road and overturned near a heap of sand.

Police and Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and carried out rescue activities. The injured passengers have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital. The condition of one of the passengers is stated to be critical.

DCP Cuttack Akhilesvar Singh said that the driver of the bus has fled from the spot and efforts are on to nab him. He added that a probe will be conducted to verify the fitness of the ill-fated vehicle.

"Two passengers have been killed and some injured. An inquiry will be ordered into the mishap. It is a very disheartening incident and the Chief Minister will take a call on (compensation) this incident," Transport Department Minister, Nrusingha Charan Sahu said.
