Angul: In what can be called an accurate description of irony, the jumbo named ‘Jashoda’ that was taken to Satkosia in order to expedite the tranquilization process of the alleged man-eater tigress ‘Sundari’, has today trampled a man to death thus raising new safety concerns.

The kumki (trained) elephant 'Yashoda' trampled one Sudhri Pradhan, the associate of a mahout, to death inside Purunakote range office premises. The incident occurred when Pradhan had gone to feed the animal, said sources.

Reportedly, ‘Jashoda’ has been restrained with a chain while forest officials reached the spot to look into the matter.

On November 2, the mammoth was taken from Chandaka to Satkosia in a truck along with four mahouts to control it in order to expedite the tranquilization process of ‘Sundari’. The special teams from Kanha and Pench tiger reserves mounted on Jashoda’s back to carry out the process following which ‘Sundari’ was successfully tranquilized on November 6.
