Bhubaneswar: The leopard sighted in densely populated Palaspalli area in Bhubaneswar on Monday night was successfully captured by Forest department officials last night.

Reportedly, the big cat was trapped in a cage set up by the forest officials by using a hen as live bait to lure it.

Panic and fear had gripped the denizens after the CCTV footage of the leopard had come to the fore on Monday.

Later on Tuesday, a team of forest department and CISF led by city DFO began the risky operation to capture the leopard in the jungle area of old Airport road.

A 10-member tranquilizer team of Nandankanan with two traps and two tranquilizing guns had also entered the jungle to speed up the operation.

According to forest officials, the leopard could have moved out of Chandaka forest and crossed over to Airfield area through NH 16.
