Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today dismissed the fate of the grand alliance which has been proposed by former Lok Sabha member Kharabela Swain.

While Swain is trying to bring leaders who have been ousted from the BJD under one umbrella, BJD leaders have rated this attempt as futile.

BJD MLA Debasis Samantray said, “Swain is not popular in his own district. His plan of forming a grand alliance will turn out to be a blunder because Baijayant Panda and Damodar Rout have lost credence after being ousted from the BJD.”

“While Panda is a loner, Rout has been rejected by people of Odisha. In such a scenario, what kind of an impact will such an alliance have on BJD's prospects?,” added Samantray.

Earlier in the day, Swain said that he is in discussion with leaders like Panda, Rout and Braja Kishore Tripathy to launch a party which will fight against BJD.

“Utkal Bharat will be an alternative to the BJD. The negotiations are on and within 8 to 10 days the nature of this alliance will come to the fore. I believe that the BJP is supporting BJD passively. So, we are not sure if our alliance will join the saffron party,” said Swain.
