'Krushi Odisha 2019' Aims At Identifying Alternative Avenues For Doubling Farmers' Income

Bhubaneswar: 'Krushi Odisha 2019' is not just an exhibition to showcase the prowess of the farming and agriculture industry but it also aims at identifying the alternative avenues for doubling farmers' income, said Agriculture Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera on Friday.

The event will be held at the Biju Pattnaik Ground, Baramunda here from January 15-19. It will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who has been giving emphasis on the development of agriculture and farmers, said Behera.

In comparison to previous years' events, the current edition of Krushi Odisha will be more attractive and significant whose benefit will reach the farmers of Odisha, he added.

Behera further informed that, various ministers and agriculture experts will be attending the event on daily basis. Seminars will be held over agro based topics where initiatives related to agriculture and allied sectors will be discussed.

The mascot of the ‘Krushi Odisha 2019’ will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister at the State Secretariat today evening, he added.

Like previous years the State Agriculture Fair, Krushi Odisha 2019, is to be held in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). The developments in Agriculture and Allied Sectors and modern technologies are showcased in the fair.

Various products relating to Agriculture are to be displayed in the exhibition for which there is provision of around 150-170 commercial stalls. The key objective is to showcase the power of the farming and Agriculture Industry in the state and highlight the investment opportunity in this sector.

During the 5 days programme it has been proposed to hold 9 Conferences/ Seminars on topics like Multiplying farming Income; Agriculture 2.0; Sea and Fresh Water Food Processing; Strengthening logistics, Cold chains and Warehousing; Farm Mechanization; Organic Farming; Woman & Agriculture; Enhancing Water use efficiency and Agri-finance.

Eminent speakers and resource person from different organizations will address the seminars. There will be 7 farmers' scientist's interaction workshop during the 4 days following the day of inauguration on the subjects such as, Enhancing income through tuber crops, better nutritional security; Backyard poultry, livestock development; Climate change and agriculture; Ornamental fish farming; Pest and disease management; Integrated farming system; Enhancing farmers income through horticulture.

Besides these, there will sessions on each day for interaction of progressive farmers. About 120 best farmers selected from 30 districts representing various enterprises like Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry will be felicitated in this occasion.

As many as 18 countries have been requested through their embassy to send delegations to participate in the State Agriculture Fair and to address the appropriate 'ethnical sessions at the conference. For wide publicity of the programme and to create awareness among the farmers of Odisha. Road shows have been organized at New Delhi as well as in Puri, Baripada & Sundergarh.
