Mayubhanj: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly murdered his wife and mother-in-law at Khuntapala village under Morada police limits here on Monday morning. The deceased have been identified as Mamata (40) and Sumati (61). 

Reportedly, Purnachandra Mahanta (50) hacked his wife Mamata and mother-in-law Sumati with an axe over a family dispute. Both Mamata and Sumati were killed on the spot.

Purnachandra used to thrash his wife suspecting that she was having extramarital affair, stated reports. Afer receiving constant death threats from him, Mamata and Sumati had even sought police protection.

On intimation, Morada police reached the spot and recovered the bodies for post-mortem. Enraged locals in Khuntapal village vandalised PCR van and detained cops who had gone to the village to investigate the murders. The matter was brought into control after Additional SP reached the spot. Later, cops held Purnachandra for further probe into the matter.
