Bhubaneswar: The School & Mass Education (S&ME) department of the Odisha government has planned various programmes focusing on 'Ahimsa' (non-violence) to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2.
"The department intends to sensitize 62 lakh school students and also those of Plus Two classes on Ahimsa, Mahatma Gandhi and why the word 'ahimsa'should find a place in the preamble of the Constitution of India," informed Samir Ranjan Das, Minister School & Mass Education.
Speaking to the media the Minister reminded that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had received wide appreciation for proposing inclusion of the word 'ahimsa' in the preamble.
"We will be holding debate, essay, painting and quiz competitions on the topic of 'ahimsa'. Also students will visit exhibitions on Mahatma Gandhi which will be held at the district level," he said.
Giving details of the schedule the Minister said that competitions at school level will be held from 16th to 18th September, at block level on 23 & 24, at district level on 27 & 28 and prize distribution for the aforementioned competitions for the junior and senior level will be held on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti.
