Bhubaneswar:  Forbes released the list of wealthiest Indians in 2019. Mukesh Ambani, Azim Premji, Shiv Nadar and Lakshmi Mittal are the four Indians to feature in the top 100 of the Forbes World’s Billionaire List. Ambani continued to lead the Indian pack in the Forbes list which featured 106 Indians this year. The list does not feature a woman in the top 10.

Forbes Richest Indians list:

1: Mukesh Ambani

 Mukesh Ambani continued to lead the Indian pack in the Forbes list which featured 106 Indians this year. He remains the richest Indian for the 12th year in a row. The Reliance Industries chairman has a net worth of $51.4 billion.

 Reliance Group Chairman Mukesh Ambani continued to dominate the Indian billionaire sphere with a net worth of $50 billion. A Stanford dropout, Ambani jumped six positions to feature at the 13th spot on the World’s Billionaire list this year. He was ranked 19th last year.

2: Azim Premji

Wipro founder Azim Premji occupied the second spot in India’s richest list for the second year in a row with a net worth of $22.6 bn. Premji has been ranked at 36th place in the Forbes World’s Billionaire’s list this year. Premji’s $8.4 bn (revenue) Wipro is India’s third-largest outsourcer, Forbes stated.

Like Ambani, Premji is a Standford University dropout who gave up studies in 1966 to look after the family’s cooking oil business when his father died, expanding it into the software. Wipro has an innovation centre in Silicon Valley, which is focused on developing new technologies and collaborating with startups.

3: Shiv Nadar

HCL chairman and co-founder Shiv Nadar jumped three places to finish at the third spot. With a net worth of $14.6 billion, he is ranked 82nd in the world’s billionaire list this year.

4: Lakshmi Mittal

With a net worth of $13.6 billion, steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal slipped one place to fourth on the list this year. CEO of the world’s biggest steelmaker Arcelor Mittal, his world ranking is 91.

5: Uday Kotak

Uday Kotak of Kotak Mahindra Bank jumped seven places to ranked at 5th in India’s richest billionaire list this year. His bank is now among the top four banks in India’s private sector. He was slated at the 114th position in the world list with a net worth of $11.8 billion. 

6: KM Birla, Radhakishan Damani and Family

The 6th slot in the list is shared by Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla and investor Radhakishan Damani. With a net worth of $11.1 billion, they jumped 3 and 5 places respectively from their last year’s ranking. Both are ranked 122nd in the world list.

Damani holds stakes in a range of companies, from tobacco firm VST industries to beer maker United Breweries. His property portfolio includes the 156-room Radisson Blu Resort in Alibaug, a popular beach-front getaway close to Mumbai.

7: Cyrus Poonawalla

Vaccine tycoon Cyrus Poonawalla jumped eight places to 7th in India’s richest list this year. With a net worth of $9.5 bn, he is ranked 147th in the world’s richest list. 

The Serum Institute of India, founded by Poonawalla in 1966 is one of the world’s largest vaccine makers. Serum produces 1.5 billion doses annually of a range of vaccines, including for measles, polio and flu, Forbes said.

8: Gautam Adani

Gautam Adani jumped two positions to grab the 8th position with a net worth of $8.7 billion. Ranked 167th in the world’s richest list, he chairs Adani group which spans over power generation and transmission, real estate and commodities. Adani also controls Mundra Port, India’s largest, in his home state of Gujarat.

In August 2018, Adani completed the $2.6 billion acquisition of Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Infrastructure’s power business in Mumbai. Adani has entered the petrochemicals sector in a $2.6 billion joint venture with Germany’s BASF and has also won bids to run six domestic airports.

9: Dilip Shanghvi

Dilip Shanghvi slipped one place to 9th in India’s richest list this year. With a net worth of $7.6 billion, he is ranked 191st in the world list.

Shanghvi’s Sun Pharma is the world’s fourth-largest speciality generics maker and India’s most valuable pharma outfit with March 2018 revenues of $3.6 billion, Forbes noted.

10: Nusli Wadia

Wadia Group Chairman Nusli Wadia jumped eight places to 10th in India’s richest list this year. With a net worth of $7 bn, Wadia is ranked 209th in the world list.
