Bengaluru: In a novel initiative by Election Commission Of Karnataka this time, the people with disabilities will be ferried to the polling booths for free by Ola Cabs to make their journey hassle-free.
Notably, Ola has partnered with the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer and others, and has made available free service to disabled voters to polling booths. This facility can be availed by the differently-abled voters across Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mangaluru on April 18. Similarly, on April 23, it will operate in Ballari, Hubali-Dharwad, Gulbarga and Belgaum as per a press release on Wednesday.
People with Disabilities (PwDs) form a massive chunk of Indian electorate. In their effort to ensure that no voter is left behind, irrespective of any form of disability, the EC directed officials to identify PwD voters state-wise and facilitate the voter registration forms and procedures for them personally. With “Assured Minimum Facilities” at polling stations, and by collaborating with NGOs and Residential Welfare Associations, it has trained polling officers and volunteers to assist PwDs.
