7 States On Alert After 'Hoax Phone Call' On Terror Attacks, 65-Yr-Old Caller Held

Bhubaneswar: 65-year-old lorry driver, Sundara Murthy, retired Army personnel has been arrested for making a hoax call on possible terror attacks in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Puducherry, Goa and Maharashtra.

Reportedly, Karnataka DG-IGP wrote to DGs of these seven states following phone call by a man 'claiming to have info that some cities will be hit by terror attacks.'

Several hours after the letter was issued, the call was identified to be hoax and the caller was held, informed Bengaluru Rural SP.

"A person claiming to be a lorry driver by name Swamy Sundar Murthy, on his way to Hosur, called up Control Room of Bangalore City Police at 5:30 pm and claimed to have information to the effect that major cities in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Maharashtra and Puducherry will be hit by terror attacks… (which) will take place on trains", the letter mentioned.

“He also claimed that there are 19 terrorists present at Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu,” the letter added.

The alert had come at a sensitive time right after bombings in Sri Lanka that killed over 250 people and left many injured.
