Moist eyes and a pall of gloom prevailed in Badasuala of Dhenkanal district’s Kamakhyanagar block as a young jawan named Ajit Kumar Sahoo hailing from the village died in a blast at Jammu & Kashmir on Monday.

A 21-yr-old youth named Tuna Behera , who was undergoing treatment at the Dhenkanal District Headquarters, allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from the sixth floor of the hospital building on Friday morning.

A pall of gloom descended on Odisha and mountaineering circuits across the country following the untimely demise of Odia mountaineer Kalpana Dash on Wednesday. A native of Dhenkanal, Das was leading a three-member team on an expedition during which she successfully scaled Mt Everest for the second time.

The deceased have been identified as Dambaru Pradhan and his wife Sukanti of Ramei village. Reportedly, the couple was returning to their house on a bike after witnessing Dola Jatra. Their way was intercepted by a group of wild elephants that attacked them on a canal bridge this morning.
